A self-initiated project created to deepen my understanding of 3D modeling, Unreal Engine 5, and Rive, while exploring how visuals and sound work together to create a believable, immersive atmosphere.
The goal was to push my skills across multiple tools and learn how to combine motion design, interactivity, and environmental storytelling into a cohesive visual experience.
Blender, Rive, Unreal Engine 5, DaVinci Resolve
2025.
I began the process by building a moodboard, drawing inspiration from the atmospheric visual style of Death Stranding and various futuristic metal box designs. This helped define the tone, material choices, and overall direction for the project.
Unfortunately, most of my progress images were lost due to file corruption.
The next step was creating a loose sketch of the box — just enough to establish proportions and key elements for the 3D model in Blender. I also blocked out a separate plane for an interactive screen, which I later integrated into Unreal Engine 5.
I created a simple, Fallout-inspired interactive menu in Rive, designed to be implemented into the 3D model. The goal was to match the sci-fi feel while keeping the interface functional and visually consistent with the overall design.
I built the final scene in Unreal Engine 5, assembling the environment using various assets and custom textures. I added atmosphere and motion with the Niagara system, using it to simulate rain and set the mood. Final touches included lighting, surface details, and small elements.
I composed the final piece in DaVinci Resolve, where I handled color correction, added sound, and applied the final visual tweaks.
This project gave me valuable insight into working across different pipelines and workflows, and helped me understand how to bring together multiple tools into a single, cohesive piece of design.
